F.A.Q

“How and when should I book with you?”

As soon as possible! Spaces are very limited, so if you know you would like me to make your wedding cake please get in touch as soon as you can. A quote is the first step, so please get in touch via my contact page. Next step is a £50 non refundable deposit to save the date – until this is received your booking is not confirmed. If another couple has asked for the same date I will let you know, however the first to pay their deposit will get the booking. If your date unexpectedly changes I will always try and rearrange, however I cannot guarantee availability for another date. Once your deposit is paid, the remaining balance is due no later than 2 weeks before your big day so that I can buy all the ingredients and any specialist equipment needed to create your wedding cake.

“Why are so many dates unavailable?”

Each wedding cake is a work of sugar art that requires my full attention. From the minute your email reaches me,  all the admin, shopping, baking, decorating and delivering is done by me (unfortunately I have no army of cake minions yet!) so in order to make sure I create you the most amazing wedding cake I limit bookings to 1 per weekend and these do get snapped up quickly. If you know your date get in touch now to reserve your wedding cake booking.

“Where can I learn to make amazing cakes?”

With me! 🙂 There are a number of courses available at The Cake College based in Arborfield. From a beginners guide to ganaching to a three tier wedding cake, if you would like to spend a day (or two!) creating cakes it would be great to meet you there.

“Can I pick up a cake today to try your baking?”

Much as I love cake, all orders are bespoke so there is never cake to spare. If you would like to try my baking you can order a tasting box to be sent out to you to try at home, or if you’d like to have a face to face chat about your cake, then I am more than happy to hand deliver your tasting box and talk through your ideas. Tastings do need to be booked in advance, and during busy periods may not be available for a few weeks but I will always try to book you in as soon as possible.

“Why do you enter competitions?”

I admit it, I’m a competition addict. They are an outlet for the extra creativity and ideas that I might not be able to use on client orders ( I haven’t had many requests for an edible octopus wedding cake!) I love the atmosphere of competitions, seeing everyone else’s work and showcasing my own new skills. I’ve been to quite a few already and won Best in class (twice!), Gold, Silver and Bronze awards and will hopefully be entering more. Competitions really push me to create new techniques and styles and takes me out of my comfort zone. These techniques often filter through to my following cake designs and inspire new creative works.

“What’s your favourite flavour?”

Lemon! Although I admit I am a chocoholic, lemon cake is always a winner. Twinned with lemon curd and a lemon Swiss meringue buttercream  and finished in a vanilla infused white chocolate ganache coating, it is one of my most ordered flavours and one that myself and my family love.
